When the grades from those nerve-wracking exams finally rolled in, I was expecting a bit of a shocker. But surprise surprise—I actually did better than I had anticipated! It was a massive relief and a testament to the hard work I'd put in. That was a turning point—a realization that pouring more effort into my studies truly pays off.

The whole exam process was intense, no doubt about it. The sleepless nights, the study buddies becoming family, and the sheer dedication of breathing in textbooks—oh, those were some wild days! But you know what? It was all worth it. Exams became a great bonding experience for most of us, a shared journey of growth and resilience.

DOE Expedition: Soaking in Serenity

The Duke of Edinburgh expedition that took place earlier this year. May took me on an adventure that not only opened my eyes but also touched my soul in ways I never imagined.

We settled by the tranquil seaside, an experience that unveiled layers of my Nigerian roots. The serene environment, untouched by modern influences, had a magnetic pull. It was a magical world where time seemed to stand still, where nature whispered stories of ancient times.

For three days, it felt like we stepped into a different dimension. Our exploration led us deep into the uncharted parts of Ibeju-Lekki, unveiling hidden treasures I never knew existed. Interacting with the locals was a revelation. I met souls as pure as the untouched landscapes—Pan-Africans who had crossed borders to make a living fishing here in Nigeria.

The rain joined our expedition, blessing us multiple times. Amidst the showers, we learned about the significance of water to the Celestians and the deep-rooted traditions—a glimpse into Africa's spiritual history before colonialism reshaped its narratives.

We immersed ourselves in a world where modernity faded, replaced by tales of the land and the people who called it home. It was a cultural awakening, a reminder of the richness embedded in our heritage.

Every step on that expedition felt like a leap into an untold chapter of Nigeria’s story—a chapter etched in simplicity, resilience, and the profound beauty of untouched landscapes.

Brilliance Finds Its Playground

September and October—the months that brought in a whirlwind of wins, but among them, one has been truly life-altering: being accepted into The Knowledge Society (TKS) on a full-ride scholarship. Trust me, it wasn't just a win; it was a symphony of dedication, hard work, and more than a little bit of nerve-wracking decision-making.

Getting that scholarship wasn't a walk in the park. It demanded more thought, effort, and action than anything I've ever tackled. But it was worth every drop of sweat. Stepping into those classes and diving into the coursework was like stepping into a world where I discovered that my potential was beyond what I ever imagined.

At TKS, I found myself reading and working on projects that even 30-year-olds would find challenging. It's mind-blowing to be surrounded by teens who seem to operate on an Einsteinian level. But you know what? It's incredibly inspiring. The classes are not just classes; they're a beautiful blend of innovation, curiosity, and boundless learning.

Let me introduce you to our unique teacher. Picture this—a wise, edgy 12-year-old (though wayyyyyyyyyyyyy older than us) who is a genius in their own right. Their guidance is unparalleled, and their passion for knowledge is infectious. It's not just about learning; it's about unlocking potential and pushing boundaries.

TKS has been more than an educational program; it's a transformative journey that has challenged my limits, expanded my horizons, and shown me the vastness of my capabilities. I'm beyond grateful for this opportunity that's shaping not just my academic path but my entire outlook on the world.

Twists, Turns, and Tresses

Initially, the decision to sport twists was merely a style choice. However, my hair had its own narrative in mind. It seemed to foster a bond of its own volition, intertwining and edging toward a dreading path, presenting an unforeseen crossroads. The prospect of nearly-locked dreads was a hair-raising moment, yet it became an avenue for personal growth and reflection.

Living with near-dreadlocks became a unique experience. My hair displayed an array of personalities, assuming shapes and forms that lent an air of whimsy to my daily routine. Conversations with my hair—deciding on looks for the day—became commonplace, adding a touch of adventure to each morning.

Navigating windy days became a picturesque affair as my hair gracefully danced in the breeze, showcasing its intricate twists. It was a picturesque display, albeit one that garnered attention.

Amidst this dynamic relationship with my hair, a profound transformation unfolded within me. I began to develop an ardent appreciation for the inherent beauty of my natural hair, fostering a deeper sense of care and affection for this unique aspect of my identity.
